Ticket to Sant Pau Art Nouveau Barcelona
Step inside Sant Pau Hospital.
In the early 1900s, visionary architect Domènech i Montaner built something radical. On the site of a medieval hospital he designed a modern hospital that would provide patients with architectural and natural beauty that would help heal their spirits. It was an unheard of concept back then and it still feels revolutionary; explore the magnificent Art Nouveau complex that he devised.
The property comprises 12 pavilions, and includes underground tunnels and a sense of style that is characterized by mosaic art, colored roof tiles, intricate arches and fun, playful lines. There are courtyards and greenery that reflect Montaner’s conviction that flowers and trees could help patients more than a conventionally sterile environment. It’s a masterpiece, but not in the forbidding sense.
The building was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, and the hospital is now located in the north-east of the district.

Follow the footsteps of Saint Ignatius from Montserrat to Manresa
Following in the footsteps of St. Ignatius of Loyola, his journey between February and March of 1522 marked a decisive turning point in his spiritual life. Upon arriving at Montserrat on his way to the Holy Land, Ignatius experienced a symbolic moment before La Moreneta, the Black Madonna. There, he laid down his sword and noble garments, choosing a rough pilgrim’s tunic and renouncing his former identity as a soldier. Stripped of status and possessions, he set out as a beggar, guided by the kindness of fellow travelers who led him to Manresa. In this small town, Ignatius spent nearly a year he later described as the most transcendental months of his life. It was a time of intense inner transformation, marked by prayer, penance, and mystical experiences. Ignatius discovered the mission that would define his future. Here he laid the foundations of the Spiritual Exercises, and his spirituality was forged—one that would eventually lead to the founding of the Society of Jesus, his legacy.
