Mokoro Full Day Trip In The Okavango Delta
Sense of Nature Safaris runs all its mokoro trips through the Okavango Kopano Mokoro Community Trust (OKMCT) who control the use of a large area of the delta and who set the guide and community fees for safari activities. This community use this part of the delta for fishing, reed cutting and the harvesting of water lily bulbs. The mokoro is an integral part of these activities. This tour commences and ends in Maun.
This activity is conducted by local mokoro community guides. Your qualified guide will take you in a mokoro (the traditional aquatic mode of transport, dugout canoe) through the water channels of the delta while you relax and enjoy listening to bird calls. You will also go for a guided bush walk on an island in the delta where you may encounter wildlife at ground level.
The bird-life in the delta is spectacular. A variety of game may be spotted in this pristine wilderness area, including elephant, giraffe, kudu, impala, zebra, hippo and crocodile – to name a few.

This comfortable non-participation private camping safari allows guests to relax without being involved in camp duties. Accompanied by a guide, chef, and a camp assistant, all your needs will be catered for.
Accommodation is provided in dome tents (measuring 2.4 meters by 2.4 meters), or meru canvas camping safari tents featuring basic en-suite facilities – including bucket shower, basin and toilet. However, the toilet is often not of the flush type – instead it is a drop toilet (consisting of a hole in the ground with a basic seat above it).
You will be treated to three meals daily, skilfully prepared by the camp chef.
Guided Mokoro Tours in the Maun Educational Park
The guide will meet you and guide you to the nearby mokoro station. There, you'll board a mokoro — a traditional canoe that was once carved from the trunk of a sausage tree, but is now made of fiber glass to protect the delta's trees. You'll glide quietly through the channels of the Okavango Delta.
The guide grew up on the banks of the Okavango River in northern Botswana. Fishing and hunting were part of daily life — not recreation, but essential for putting food on the table. That same deep understanding of the delta — the hidden channels, seasonal shifts, and habits of tigerfish and bream — is what he brings to Mahango Mokoro Tours.
