Self-Guided Audio Tour: The Rise of the Wall City Part I
Walk the city walls of Cartagena with our special audio tour and commentary provided by the voice of Antonio Arévalo, one of its creators. You'll start at the bastion of San Pedro Martir and see the fortress of San Felipe from afar. Your narrator will explain the reasons why these great fortresses and the different elements of colonial military technology that made them the best defensive weapon against pirate attacks for centuries. You will pass by the old bullring of Serrezuela and the bastion of St. Lucas and St. Catalina. You'll hear about the colonial-era water reserves that were built inside the fortress. The tour ends with an entertaining quiz where you can test your newly acquired knowledge. And if you are lucky, you can visit the cistern with special 3D sound effects. Mountain Biking, Off the beaten Path in Tierra Bomba
Designed for those seeking adventure, movement and discovery, this mountain biking experience takes you beyond the city into the authentic island landscapes of Tierra Bomba, just 15 minutes from Cartagena. This journey blends sport, history, culture and nature into one dynamic island experience.
The ride combines adrenaline and exploration as we navigate rustic trails, natural vegetation, varying elevations and secluded beaches. After approximately two hours of riding, we reach Fuerte de San Ángel, where a local guide welcomes us with fresh coconut water and shares stories about this place and Cartagena’s early history.
We continue toward Bocachica to visit the impressive Fuerte de San Fernando, a key landmark in the city’s colonial defence system and a setting tied to pirate lore and maritime conquest.
The experience concludes with a seaside lunch prepared by local chefs specialising in balanced, nourishing cuisine, a moment to relax before returning by boat to Cartagena.
Horseback riding on the beaches of Cartagena
The tour begins at the meeting point which is at the back of the Sonesta hotel, we walk to the beaches behind the hotel which are the beaches of La Boquilla, while you walk the coordinator will briefly talk to you about the town, the beaches and small details of the population and its culture, once on the beach we begin the horseback ride along the beaches of La Boquilla for 1 hour or 30 minutes, the afternoon is free so you can rest in the sun, get a tan or swim in the sea. To return you can do it by taxi or on a public transport bus that crosses right next to the beach.
