At Las Hornillas you walk inside an active crater in the foothills of the Miravalles Volcano, past boiling mud pots, fumaroles and sulphur vents, then ride a tractor up to a waterfall and cross a 40-metre hanging bridge with the falls below you, with time for the mud baths and hot springs afterwards. Then we drive north into the Bijagua rainforest, a completely different climate on the Caribbean slope, and walk a private reserve with a naturalist guide looking for sloths, frogs, toucans and monkeys.
