The great profusion of flowers is due to the limestone on which the plateau is situated. One of the highlights of this plateau is the extremely rare Tulipa doerfleri, and it occurs in in such great numbers that the fields are coloured red! Back in the late 1960s - 1970s, this little town was a colony of the “flower children”, who lived in the caves that used to be former Roman tombs. Samaria Gorge private Transfer from Chania (price per group of 6)
This is a transfer for Samaria gorge for a maximum 6 guests (price is for 6 persons). If you wish a private guide its 300 euro more per group. Please ask me for availability.
Samaria gorge is a National Park with unique flora and fauna, in the heart of mountains. It is the best hike in Crete, and probably one of the best in Europe. Its open 1st May to end of October. The hike is demanding. The path is uneven and rocky, you have to watch your step.
Samaria is a 16km (10 miles) downhill hike in forest and mountains, with a river flowing and organized resting places. Its impossible to get lost, you will hike in the bottom of the gorge with cliffs around. It takes 5 hours to cross it. Its something between Grand Canyon and Zion.
Will depart at 7am and return at 9pm. After an hour driving we will reach the gorge entrance where I drop you off. Hike ends at Agia Roumeli, a tiny village, buy boat tickets for Sougia. At Sougia I will wait for you to drive you back.
