Addis sight seeing tour from 4th century AD rock-hewn semi-monolithic church
Addis Ababa sight seeing from 4th century AD rock-hewn semi-monolithic church.
It may be an hour hike up hill from Yeka Mikael church in Addis Ababa, but the semi-monolithic Washa Mikael (literally, St. Mikael’s cave) is well worth the efforts. Watching a sunken 1600 year old structure, entirely carved from a single slab of stone within such a short distance from Addis is sure to impress. The path is gentle at the start but gets tougher as you go up and after about fifty minutes you reach the level and it is a gentle stroll past a couple of villages to the church.
The conceptof the church is the same as the Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches.
After visiting the church we will be climbing to Melata Gara or Bold hill at Yeka mountain. An easy and very good short hiking to enjoy sightseeing of Addis Ababa.
Give it a try, it is still a lovely place. We have it on good authority the views on the way down from are pretty.

04 Days Historical North, Lalibela, Gondar and Bahir dar
We built this short tour for people who want the big three—Lake Tana’s island monasteries, Lalibela’s rock churches, and Gondar’s castles—but don’t have a week to spare. In four days, you’ll see all of them, and we’ve run this route so many times that we know exactly how to make every hour count.
Most companies pack these stops into four days and call it done. We’ve spent years tweaking the flights, the pickup times, and the order of visits so you’re never stuck waiting around. Our local teams in each city talk to each other daily.
Our guides are the real secret. They’re not outsiders who memorized a script. The guy we work with in Lalibela grew up a ten-minute walk from Bet Giyorgis. His uncle is a deacon there. He’ll point out the small carvings that tourists walk past and tell you which priest still sings the old chants at dawn. In Gondar, our guide’s grandfather worked as a guard at the castle compound in the 1960s—he has family stories that no Wikipedia page will ever have.
