Struthof Concentration Camp
From 1870 to 1945, Alsace was a major war zone between France and Germany. This tour will explore the history of the Alsatians, first under German rule, then under French. We will discover remnants of these wars and visit Struthof (a concentration camp at 900 meters altitude), a Nazi German concentration camp. For a lighter touch, we will conclude the tour with a visit to one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Alsace and Christendom at Mont Sainte-Odile. It is important to bring a waterproof jacket and warm clothing depending on the weather. A written description and audio guide are available in English for Struthof. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp: Private Day Trip from Berlin
The Sachsenhausen concentration camp was built in 1936 by internees from other camps and was the first to be built under the New Chief of Police, the infamous SS Leader Heinrich Himmler.
It was designed to be the standard for other camps – both in its escape-proof layout, and its abusive treatment of prisoners, with over 200,000 people imprisoned there between 1936-45. At first, prisoners included opponents of the Nazis, and later it received Jews, Sinti and Roma, homosexuals, and “anti-socials”.
You will learn about the appalling treatment of prisoners, and after a very emotional tour, you will be able to pay your respects at the National Memorial created in 1961 inside the camp, before returning to Berlin.

Tour through the historic old town of Stralsund
The DARSSBAHN, a so-called little train, takes you on a tour of Stralsund. It starts at the ferry bridge at the fish market, in front of the harbor island, and takes about 45 minutes. Marvel at over 500 listed gabled houses, numerous churches and monasteries, and the maritime side of Stralsund, with the many small canals, sailing boats, and fishing boats around the harbor island. After the train starts, it heads towards the Hansa-Gymnasium, past the oldest harbor bar in Europe, straight into the narrow streets of the old town, past the Scheelehof, in Külpstraße you can take a look at the historic town hall facade, then past the ponds, city fortifications, and ramparts towards the Neuer Markt.
