Marangu Route is one of the oldest and most preferred routes on Kilimanjaro. It is the easiest path on the mountain due to its gradual slope and direct path.
It is the only route on Kilimanjaro as it has hut accommodations for the hikers making it popular among the tourists. Marangu Route is therefore also known as “tourist route".
Marangu Route has three hut accommodations: Mandara Huts, Kibo Huts, and Horombo Hut. These hut accommodations provide bunk beds. There are 60 bunks beds each at Mandara huts, Kibo huts, however, there are 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.

This is the highest mountain in Africa. It is snow caped and world’s highest free standing volcano summits. The mountain comprises of two dormant volcanoes (Kibo 5,895m a.m.s.l and Mawenzi 5,149m a.m.s.l) and one extinct volcano (Shira 3,962m a.m.s.l) respectively. The origin of the word is not well known but it said to be a combination of the Swahili word Kilima meaning “Mountain” and the Kichagga word Njaro, loosely translated as “Whiteness” giving the name “White Mountain”. Its size is 1,712Km2 and was declared as a National Park in 1973, officially opened for tourism in 1977, Kilimanajaro mountain was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and Natural Wonder of Africa in 2013. Kilimanjaro 2 days Hike
On this trip, you will hike on the Marangu Route with one night at Mandara Hut and towards Horombo Hut before returning to Mandara for lunch and then hiking back. You will NOT reach the summit. All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn't a "must do", and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed. Mount Kilimanjaro: 6 Day Trekking – Machame Route
The Machame route is also known as the Whiskey route, given its reputation for being a tough climb, in contrast to the easier Marangu route, which is known as the Coca Cola route. Unlike the gradual incline and hut accomodations found on the Marangu Route, the climbers on Machame hike steeper trails, for longer distances, while sleeping in tents.
The Machame Route climb can be done in a minimum of six days (five nights) on the mountain. However, it is most often tackled over seven days (six nights), for a better altitude acclimatization schedule. The trek begins at Machame Gate, located in the southern base of mountain, within its lush, fertile rainforest.
Kilimanjaro Marangu Route 6 Days
The 6 Days Marangu route is one of the easiest and most popular trail in Kilimanjaro. The moderate slope makes it less difficult to climb. It’s the only route with huts, simple dining and rooms. We recommend on doing Marangu 6 days/5 nights in Mountain though this route allow 5 days/4 nights in Mountain.
