However, they did not want to meet his requirements: they decided to poison him, but the chalice with poisoned wine fell apart when St. Benedict made a gesture of blessing over him. The saint left that monastery to found a new one, on the top of Monte Cassino, where the abbey, which has been ruined many times, is still standing today.
