Kyoto Weird & Unusual: Oddities & Curiosities PRIVATE Tour
What makes this tour unique is not merely the accumulation of curious sights, but the invitation it offers to experience Kyoto through the lens of strangeness and human desire. In wandering through chaotic stores, photobooths, and cat cafés, we confront the peculiar ways in which people seek delight, companionship, and spectacle.
The lantern-lit alleys of Gion, with their whispers of history and shadows of concealed power, stand beside neon-lit maid cafés and Purikura booths, reminding us that culture is rarely coherent, often contradictory, and endlessly fascinating.

Kanji Workshop The Way of Writing
History of kanji and the art behind it
Kanji originated in ancient China as pictographic and ideographic symbols used to record meaning rather than sound. Over centuries, these characters traveled to Japan, where they were adapted into the Japanese writing system and became deeply intertwined with literature, religion, administration, and daily life. Beyond their practical use, kanji developed into an art form through calligraphy.
The Workshop Experience
Participants begin by putting on a traditional half jacket (hanten), symbolically entering the role of a learner of form. Each person then selects a single kanji to focus on. The session centers on writing that one character repeatedly, making adjustments and refinements with each attempt. The character gradually becomes a path of practice rather than just a symbol. The workshop concludes with each participant writing their chosen kanji on a formal board as a final piece (shikishi board).

Kyoto: Kinkakuji Behind the Gold - UNESCO Walk (Incl. Entry Fee)
Most photos of Kinkakuji show one thing — a gilded pavilion mirrored in still water. But behind the gold leaves is a story 600 years deep: a shogun's last dream, a son's burning act of jealousy in 1950, and the temple Japan rebuilt around it.
You'll see Kinkakuji in 90 minutes with a Kyoto local guide who reads what the gold is actually saying. Three floors — samurai shoin, Chinese chambers, Buddhist top — each speaking a different language of power. The reflection pond, framed as Yoshimitsu commanded 600 years ago.
UNESCO World Heritage. Entry ticket included. Small group of 8 max, English-speaking Kyoto local. Bring just curiosity — the rest is in the gold.
Highlights:
・90-min UNESCO Kinkakuji walking tour
・Stories the gold won't tell — shogun, jealousy, Zen
・Three-floor architecture decoded by a Kyoto local
・Entry ticket included (no extra fees on site)
・Small group (max 8), English-speaking Kyoto local guide
Kyoto Nishiki Market: 8-10 Tastings, 90 Min, Kyoto Local
Most travelers walk Kyoto's 400-year-old kitchen guessing at signboards. You'll walk it with someone who knows which yuba is hand-pulled this morning, which dashi-maki to skip, and which shopkeeper still keeps a secret for regulars.
In 90 minutes through Nishiki Market, we taste our way through eight to ten carefully chosen bites — yuba, Kyoto dashi-maki, hamo tempura, wagyu skewers, sansho pickles, a seasonal sweet, matcha gelato, and a few more your guide picks for the day.
We start at 10 AM, before the noon crush turns the alley to a standstill. Small group of 8, English-speaking Kyoto local, stand-and-eat etiquette included.
Highlights:
・8-10 hand-picked tastings in Kyoto's 400-year-old market kitchen
・Yuba, hamo tempura, dashi-maki, wagyu, sansho pickles & a seasonal sweet
・Visit before the noon rush
・Small group (max 8), English-speaking Kyoto local guide
・Photo support & shopkeeper introductions throughout
