Garbage and Rats in NYC Family Scavenger Hunt
Dig into the dirty story of New York City's garbage and rats with a family photo scavenger hunt! This activity is fun for families with children ages 6 - 17.
On this scavenger hunt, teams of up to 5 people (including at least one adult) are loaned an instant camera with film for up to 20 photos. Each team has an hour to find items related to garbage or rats in New York City and take a photo. Teams receive points for every photo taken. Some items are trickier than others, so use your phone for on-the-go research. The team with the most points is crowned Rat King. All participating kids receive the same prize.
- No previous knowledge needed; just bring your curiosity and wear comfy shoes!
- Hunts are led by an in-person host (and her “rat” assistants) who can answer questions along the way and offer guidance.

All this walking, an excellent experience.
We leave at 8:00 AM from Times Square, from there we will travel by subway to uptown Manhattan and begin the route along 125th Street, also known as Martin Luther King Boulevard.
There we will make stops at the legendary Apollo Theater (1914) where many figures from the entertainment world began their artistic careers, Areta Franklyn, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, James Brown, in addition to performing there, Michel Jackson and Steve Wonder among others.
We make another stop in front of the old Theresa Hotel (1913), where figures such as Fidel Castro and John F. Kennedy stayed.
We will have time to walk through its streets and see the famous brownstones, with time for photos.
We finish the route by attending one of the religious services in a Baptist church, (duration 1 hour)
