After the hike, return to Asheville via the historic Blue Ridge Parkway. Group is limited to 6 hikers.
Meet at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Asheville. You will meet your hiking guide and receive a rundown of the itinerary. 5 hour tour includes drive time and 2.5-3 hours of hiking. Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat to an extensive list of over 300 living species. On our kayak tours, we get the chance to see a variety of birds like the Prothonotary Warblers, Wood Ducks, Northern Cardinals, Killdeer, and Pileated Wood Peckers. Oftentimes, we spot an alligator swimming in the distance or sunning on the shore. The refuge is also home to the largest concentration of black bears on the East Coast. Black Bears can sometimes be seen roaming or relaxing on land or climbing the trees.

For $185 per person, this 3-hour experience includes transportation from downtown Asheville, guided interpretation, snacks, and red-light headlamps (required for firefly viewing). The easy to moderate 2-mile hike accommodates most fitness levels and is perfect for ages 14+. With a maximum of 6 participants, your expert guide will lead you through well-maintained trails while sharing insights about local ecology and history. Tours depart at 7pm and return around 10pm, running daily from May 22 - June 1 and June 26 - July 1. Please note that while this area is known for firefly activity, sightings cannot be guaranteed, particularly following Hurricane Helene. The Kitty Hawk Stand Up Paddle Tour explores the calm bays and sheltered waters of Kitty Hawk, an ideal place to learn how to stand up paddleboard for the first time. This tour leaves standup paddleboarding from our shop in Kitty Hawk and explores the North Carolina Coastal Reserve, one of the few intact maritime forest environments on the Outer Banks.
