The Rongai route is one of the most favourable routes to attempt Kilimanjaro during the rainy season, as it sees substantially less rain than the southern routes. The route ‘also known as the Nalemuru route’ is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the North, close to the Kenyan border.
Rongai route offers a true wilderness experience in the early stages of the climb, it is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu route, for those who want a more remote hike and for those who climb during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation).

The best 6-Days Kilimanjaro hiking (Machame route)whiskey route
Climbing Kilimanjaro via Machame is very scenic but slightly challenging. Often called the Whiskey Route this is a scenically beautiful trail, longer and much gentler than Umbwe or Marangu. Despite being a tough climb compared to the Marangu route, the Machame route has one of the highest summit success rates given the topography of the route which allows climbers to “trek high & sleep low” hence making it a more favorable route for acclimatization. This hike takes 6 Days although an extra day at Shira or Karanga valley is recommended for better acclimation. This route is much quiter route as opposed to Marangu and involves a rather gradual ascent unlike that on Umbwe Route. The walking is rather tiring. However, our itinerary is designed to provide valuable acclimatization by having shorter walking days during the trek.

This cycling tour will lead you out of the city heading south into the enormous and beautiful sugar cane fields. You will see entire villages constructed for plantation workers by TPC, The Tanzanian Plantation Company. From lush sugarcane you will begin to move deep into the rural and agrarian life of the local people. Keep a lookout for outstanding views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mawenzi in the distance as you ride alongside fields of corn, wheat, turnips, onions, and bananas. Quaint and tiny villages will appear along the route, as well as herds of cows, goat, and sheep. Machame Route 7 Days 6 Nights /Kilimanjaro Climb
Machame Route now vies with – and indeed over the last few years has overtaken – the Marangu Route as the most popular trail. Machame is also the regarded by many guides as the most enjoyable, though it is longer and, according to most, more arduous. Despite this, the success rate on the Machame Route is higher than on the Marangu Route, possibly because the Machame is a day longer at six days and five nights (assuming you take the Barafu Route to the summit) which gives trekkers more time to acclimatize. An extra acclimatization day can – and usually is -taken in the Karanga Valley. The Machame Route also gives you the option of taking the Western Breach / Arrow Glacier Route to the summit.
